Rebecca Martin said the government’s tough Stark Law settlement with a former hospital system CEO “makes me think that a message is being sent” about actively pursuing executives in corporate fraud settlements. Ms. Martin called the settlement notable because it came after the hospital itself settled, the penalty was based on the CEO’s financial situation and he was barred from participating in federal health care programs. “That means he’s going to actually have to pay,” she added.
