Stephen Kranz, commenting on a suit by Uber drivers over whether they are employees or independent contractors under state law, said that the dispute is “the type of issue that spreads rapidly, not just around the country but from one area of substantive law to another. This is not a new economy question,” Mr. Kranz continued; “it is a question of law that has faced worker characterization for decades and it does touch on many different agencies,” state and federal.
