Sikh Americans Serving in Military Find Allies in Retired Military Leaders

Amandeep Sidhu, a co-founder of The Sikh Coalition advocacy group, spoke about the group’s efforts at convincing the US military to allow Sikh Americans to serve while maintaining the turbans and beards of their religious faith. “We’ve never wanted to force the armed forces to change,” said Mr. Sidhu. “We want to give them the tools and the evidence that this [allowing Sikh service] is the right thing to do.”
