New Tax Law Will Give U.S. Hard Cider More Kick and Fizz

Overview

Marc Sorini praised recent changes made by Congress in the tax structure for hard cider, in part because previous law only referenced ciders from apples even though ciders have traditionally been made with either apples or pears as closely related fruits. Mr. Sorini said it would be a mistake to characterize the law as a tax cut because the previous definition constrained producers from making cider the way they wanted, adding that he sees it as increasing creativity within the cider market instead of exempting some products.
