Stephen Ryan, as counsel for the Citizens Against Rail Expansion in FL [CARE FL] group that opposes a high-speed Florida passenger rail project, said the group “is not opposed to railroads. Its main objection is to the expansion of rail service and an increase in freight traffic … People here aren’t used to passenger trains running at 80 to 100 mph,” Mr. Ryan continued, citing safety concerns from this and the fact that “there will be more, potentially life-threatening delays for police and emergency vehicles” at crossings.
