April 18, 2014 – McDermott was named “Transfer Pricing Law Firm of the Year” at Legalcommunity’s Tax Awards ceremony held on April 16 in Milan. The ceremony was attended by over 300 of Italy’s best lawyers, tax managers, and general and legal counsel from prestigious Italian and international companies.

LegalCommunity was launched in 2011 and has become widely regarded as a leading legal media outlet in Italy. The Legalcommunity Tax Awards recognize the most outstanding law firms and lawyers in the tax area in Italy and cover a range of specialties encompassing general tax, transfer pricing, tax restructuring, tax finance and tax controversy.

Carlo Maria Paolella, head of the Italian Tax Practice, accepted the award on behalf of the entire Italian Tax Team, which includes partners Mario Martinelli and Andrea Tempestini, associates Alessio Persiani, Simone Serretti and Giuseppe Mazzarella, and trainees Federico Bortolomeazzi and Gaia Marano.

In addition to this award, Carlo Maria Paolella and Andrea Tempestini ranked among the top five lawyers in Italy for “Tax Lawyer of the Year” and “Lawyer of the Year for Tax / Finance,” respectively.

Overall, McDermott was distinguished as one of the firms with the highest number of nominations, with listings in nearly all categories for which the Firm was eligible.

A panel of independent judges part of Italy’s business elite—including Saxo Bank Italia, Indesit Company, ING Bank, Crédit Agricole, Luxottica Group, Nomura International, Davide Campari Milano, Lego, UBS Italia, Fiat Industrial and Mediobanca, among others—reviewed the information received from all shortlisted firms and decided on the winners for each category.

The LegalCommunity Awards recognize extraordinary achievements by law firms in a particular legal or industry area within the past year. The shortlist was derived from questionnaires, peer review and client research.
