Carolyn Gleason said that “2014 will be a year for tough negotiations” with regard to the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) trade talks between the U.S. and the European Union. “Whether TTIP can close in 2014 is an open question,” Ms. Gleason explained, noting that “harmonizing substantive rules is a tall order, something the U.S. government hasn’t attempted to a significant degree in its prior FTAs [Free Trade Agreements].”
