Danai N. Mhembere focuses her practice on patent prosecution activities related to automotive, mechanical, electro-mechanical, medical device and consumer electronics technologies. She is experienced in preparing and successfully prosecuting foreign and US patent applications as well as responding to Office Actions and various other papers filed in the US Patents and Trademark Office. Danai also has significant experience in patent landscape analysis and patentability searches.
Danai joined McDermott from a well-established and renowned international law firm where she conducted various patent prosecution activities for several fortune 500 clients.
While in law school, Danai worked as an intellectual property intern at Panasonic. As an intellectual property intern, she performed patent analysis for new technologies related to various consumer electronics products. Danai was also involved in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Patent Law School Clinic Certification Pilot Program conducting patent prosecution activities for qualifying clients.
Danai received an Intellectual Property Fellowship and graduated honors, receiving an Intellectual Property Law Certificate. She was also a recipient of the distinguished American Intellectual Property Legal Education Fund (AIPLEF) Sidney B. Williams Scholarship.
Prior to her legal career, Danai worked in the automotive industry for Toyota and General Motors as a Mechanical Engineer. She received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and received the award for an outstanding performance as a Mechanical Engineering Sophomore, NSBE Academic Achiever of the Year and Andrea L. Rubin Memorial Award. Throughout her years in college, Danai was awarded the General Motors Minorities in Engineering & Science Scholarship and the Xerox Technical Minorities Scholarship.
