Steven H. Hoeft represents clients on matters related to toxic tort, product liability, intellectual property, contract and real estate litigation. He has had first-chair responsibility for jury and bench trials, preliminary injunction hearings, arbitrations and appeals.
Steven has represented manufacturers in multi-state, multiple claimant cases involving diverse products such as asbestos, fire retardant treated plywood and commercial laundry equipment. His role in these cases ranges from front-line trial responsibility, to creating and coordinating a national defense strategy, to resolving insurance coverage issues.
In the intellectual property field, Steven handles trademark and unfair competition litigation. He also has represented manufacturers accused of infringing patents in many fields, including medical devices, lighting fixtures and bottles.
Obtained decisions from the Illinois Appellate Court affirming verdicts for his client and reversing verdicts for plaintiffs in a series of jury trials (each two to seven weeks long) and appeals arising from claims of civil conspiracy and asbestos disease
Succeeded in having the plaintiffs‘ patent invalidated and obtained a multimillion-dollar fee award on behalf of the accused infringer in TAL Apparel Limited v. Esquel Apparel
Persuaded the Illinois Supreme Court to vacate a substantial damage award in favor of the plaintiff and then persuaded the jury on retrial to award the plaintiff only $1 as nominal damages in Midland Hotel v. Donnelley Directory
Defeated constitutional challenges to a $70 million bond issue and prevented the closing of one of the busiest airports in Illinois in City of Geneva v. DuPage Airport
Represented the plaintiff in a breach of contract jury trial in Central Illinois, which resulted in a $5.1 million award in favor of the plaintiff in Roberson v. Volvo Truck
