Kevin Ni, PhD* focuses his practice on preparing and prosecuting US and foreign patent applications related to chemicals and pharmaceuticals. His technical background includes organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceuticals, polymers, nanomaterials, electric batteries and molecular electronics. He also has experience in conducting patentability and non-infringement analysis and developing IP strategies for clients.
Prior to joining McDermott, Kevin was a patent agent at a law firm where he prosecuted more than 300 US and foreign patent applications and prepared more than 60 new patent applications. He has experience prosecuting large patent portfolios, including preparing US office action responses and overseeing foreign prosecution. For more than eight years, Kevin was a senior research scientist for some of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies, acquiring extensive experience in oncology, inflammation, immunology and neuroscience research. While working in the pharmaceutical industry, he co-developed a number of small molecule therapeutics to the preclinical stage. Kevin is a co-author of more than 10 peer-reviewed scientific articles published in journals including Journal of the American Chemical Society, Organic Letters and Journal of Medicinal Chemistry.
Kevin earned his PhD in organic chemistry from Wayne State University, where he studied organometallic chemistry and natural product synthesis. He was a postdoctoral scholar at the California Institute of Technology, working on organocatalysis and organic synthesis. Kevin is currently a JD candidate at the New England School of Law.
