LONDON - Only a year after its opening, McDermott Will & Emery's London office placed second for Legal Business' prestigious "U.S. Firm of the Year" award. Only five of the more than 70 U.S. firms operating in London were nominated by the publication based on criteria, including client recommendations, history of deals and achievements and nominations from other law firms.
The award winners were announced at a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel attended by more than 700 people. McDermott Will & Emery was runner-up to Sullivan & Cromwell, which has maintained an office in London for many years.
"The recognition of our accomplishments in London so soon after opening is a great honor," said Firm Chairman Larry Gerber.
Rocketing from three lawyers to 42 since its debut, McDermott's London office has attracted leading lawyers in several areas, including general corporate and corporate finance, banking, taxation, intellectual property, labor & employment, information technology, telecommunications and litigation. The Firm is integrated across 12 geographic locations, which is a major benefit to clients as they can tap resources on both sides of the Atlantic on deals and other matters with international aspects.
