LOS ANGELES - The international law firm of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Jorge Arciniega has joined the Firm’s Intellectual Property Department formalizing the Firm’s IP practice in Los Angeles.
Mr. Arciniega joining as partner, focuses his practice on international intellectual property, advising clients throughout the world on trademark and copyright selection, creation, protection, registration and enforcement. Also joining the Firm’s Los Angeles office is Chanir Velarde. Ms. Velarde, who has experience advising on international joint ventures and mergers and acquisitions, as well as international trademark prosecution distribution and licensing, is joining the intellectual property department as a foreign legal consultant.
Mr. Arciniega, whose clients include a major television network and Internet portal and a number of well known apparel companies, counsels businesses on development, protection and commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights. In this connection, he has substantial experience combating infringement and counterfeiting in the United States, foreign jurisdictions and cyberspace. He also has extensive experience in the licensing of trademarks and copyrights across a broad spectrum of industries. Beyond his traditional IP practice, Mr. Arciniega advises companies on e-business issues including advertising, co-branding, rights of publicity, IP licensing, and website development and hosting agreements. He also has advised on cross-border acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures and license and distribution agreements, as they pertain to IP rights.
Mr. Arciniega received his J.D. from Harvard University in 1982, and his B.A. in 1979 from the University of California - Los Angeles.
