CHICAGO - McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Michael A. Pope, a partner in the Firm's Trial Department of its Chicago office, has been elected president of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association of Chicago.
The Seventh Circuit Bar Association, with over 1,600 members, is the official liaison between practicing lawyers and the federal court judges within the Seventh Circuit. Membership is open to all lawyers who practice in the Illinois, Wisconsin and Indiana federal courts. He is a great choice to head this important association." Mr. Pope will lead the Association until the conclusion of its Annual Meeting on May 9-11, 2004, in Chicago.
Mr. Pope is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada.
Mr. Pope, who joined McDermott in 1995, heads the Firm's Product Liability Practice Group. His practice includes the defense of large class action lawsuits and commercial litigation around the United States. He also is experienced in professional liability matters and in the interpretation of reinsurance treaties and excess insurance policies.
Mr. Pope currently serves as president of the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation, which makes financial grants to the providers of legal assistance to the poor throughout Illinois. He is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, where he serves on its Board of Directors. Mr. Pope has previously served as president of the International Association of Defense Counsel and of Lawyers for Civil Justice, and is currently the chair of the Task Force on Mass Torts for the Defense Research Institute.
