CHICAGO - Michael A. Pope, a partner in the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, hosted a luncheon on May 20, 2003 for the Honorable William Dressel, President of the College, and numerous local lawyers and judges.
The purpose of the meeting was for President Dressel to thank four Chicago law firms for their strong financial contribution to NJC in the past year. On behalf of the College, President Dressel presented the Thomas C. Clark Crystal Gavel Society award to Stephen R. Patton of Kirkland & Ellis; Julian C. D'Esposito, Jr. of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw; Mr. Pope of McDermott Will & Emery and Kimball R. Anderson of Winston & Strawn. Also present were leaders of the Circuit Court of Cook County, including the Honorable Timothy C. Evans, the Honorable Dorothy Kirie Kinnaird, the Honorable Stephen A. Schiller, and Chicago lawyers Andrew R. Laidlaw and William R. Quinlan.
The National Judicial College, which is celebrating its fortieth anniversary, is the only institution in the United States devoted to the full-time education of state court judges. Each year more than 300 judicial faculty members, the very best judges from across the nation, donate their time to the continuing education and professional development of over 3,000 judges and court officials.
