NEW YORK (August 10, 2005) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that Edwin C. ("Ted") Laurenson has joined McDermott Will & Emery's Corporate Department as a partner. Based in the Firm's New York office, Mr.Laurenson focuses his practice on the regulation of public and private investment funds and investment advisory matters.
"Ted will be a significant asset for our continually growing New York corporate practice," commented Peter Sacripanti, partner-in-charge of the Firm's New York office. "He will be working closely with Tom McGavin, Joseph Suh and others, who since joining the Firm in early 2004 have been committed to further enhancing our capital markets practice."
Mr. Laurenson's practice in recent years has focused on both private funds, including hedge funds and private equity funds and the registration, regulation and operation of publicly and privately offered closed end investment companies. He advises on all aspects of the application of the Investment Company Act and Investment Advisers Act to those funds, as well as privately managed accounts. In other areas relating to registered investment companies, Mr. Laurenson has dealt extensively with matters relating to securities lending and the interface of banking law, retirement plan benefits law and the securities laws with regard to retirement funds and other types of pooled investment vehicles.
Mr. Laurenson earned his B.A. magna cum laude at Amherst College and his J.D. at Yale Law School. Immediately following law school, he clerked for U.S. District Court Judge William K. Thomas in the Northern District of Ohio. He is admitted to practice in New York.

Mr. Laurenson is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA), including the Federal securities law subcommittees on investment companies and advisers and private investment entities. He recently served on the Task Force on Hedge Fund Regulation assembled by the ABA Section on Business Law to respond to regulatory initiatives with regard to private funds.
