CHICAGO (April 12, 2006) — On March 31, 2006, McDermott Will & Emery client Sumner Regional Health Systems, Inc., (SRHS), a private not-for-profit health care system, closed its acquisition of Smith County Memorial Hospital (SCMH) from LifePoint Hospitals, Inc. SCMH, a 63 licensed-bed, full-service facility, has been owned and operated by LifePoint since its spin-off from HCA, Inc. in 1999.
The McDermott team advising SRHS on the acquisition included partners John Callahan and Tom Hefty. Additionally Jeffrey Sheldon provided assistance on licensing issues and Lisa Kaderabek advised on financing issues.
With the addition of SCMH, Sumner Regional Health Systems, Inc., headquartered in Gallatin, Tennessee, now serves the needs of communities through four health care facilities, including Sumner Regional Medical Center; Trousdale Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Hartsville, Tennessee, acquired in 2000; and Carthage General Hospital, a 25-bed critical access hospital in Carthage, Tennessee, acquired in 2004.
