CHICAGO (May 26, 2006) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that health partners, Bernadette M. Broccolo and Michael W. Peregrine have been selected by the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA) as Fellows of its organization. The Fellows program recognizes the importance of AHLA's life-long leader community and was established to create a forum for former AHLA leaders to remain active and continue to contribute to its success. Ms. Broccolo and Mr. Peregrine join McDermott partners, Michael F. Anthony, Gary Scott Davis, Douglas M. Mancino and Joel L. Michaels, who were named AHLA Fellows in 2005.

Ms. Broccolo has been advising health industry organizations for more than 25 years on leading edge health industry relationship formation and realignments (e.g., joint ventures, governance restructurings, and relationships between institutional providers and physicians); health information technology acquisitions and electronic health information networks; programs for human subject research; and overall corporate compliance programs. Her practice includes the full scope of legal and regulatory compliance in the areas of federal taxation of exempt organizations and not-for-profit corporate governance, privacy, human subject protection and technology contracting. She is recognized nationally as one of the leading health care exempt organization practitioners. She has served continuously in leadership positions for organizations serving the health industry and the legal profession, including AHLA and the American Bar Association. Ms. Broccolo's experience and contributions to health law have also been recognized by her inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA 2005: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business and Illinois Super Lawyers.
Mr. Peregrine concentrates his practice in the representation of nonprofit health care facilities and systems and other charitable organizations, with particular focus on the corporate, fiduciary duty, tax and charitable trust issues facing such organizations. His experience includes the representation of nonprofit health care corporations and other charitable organizations in connection with the organization and operation of health care systems, including related governance issues and parent/subsidiary relationships. Mr. Peregrine participates as Nonprofit Law Advisor to the American Law Institute. He is recognized as one of the leading national practitioners in not-for-profit corporate law. Most recently, he has been noted for his role as a member of the Legal Framework Work Group of the Panel on the Nonprofit Sector, convened to advise the Senate Finance Committee on federal oversight legislation for nonprofit organizations.
