WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 6, 2006) — The Washington, D.C. office of McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the addition of health law partner, T. Reed Stephens. Mr. Stephens was a former attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) prior to entering private practice in 2003.

Mr. Stephens focuses on litigation, regulatory compliance and transactional work for pharmaceutical companies, including large drug manufacturers, wholesalers and health care systems. He handles the defense of litigation brought by the DOJ, State Attorneys General and class action plaintiffs. He has been involved in customer and vendor contracting; government price reporting; off-label drug marketing; food and drug regulations; U.S. customs requirements; information security; and the Anti-Kickback statute. Mr. Stephens also advises on risk assessment and valuation of liabilities as part of the mergers and acquisitions process.
At the DOJ, Mr. Stephens was lead or co-lead counsel in nearly 60 investigations, the majority involving allegations of health care fraud perpetrated against various government agencies. He was lead/co-lead counsel in more than a dozen fraud matters that resulted in multi-million dollar recoveries to the United States.
Mr. Stephens earned his J.D. in 1991 from Stanford Law School and his B.A. in history from Princeton University in 1988. Following law school, he clerked for the Honorable Clifford Scott Green of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. He is admitted to practice in Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania. Mr. Stephens is a member of the American Bar Association, Health Law Section; D.C. Bar Association; American Inns of Court, Edward Bennett Williams Chapter, Washington, D.C.; and the American Health Lawyers Association.
