WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 19, 2009) — McDermott Will & Emery LLP is delighted to announce that after more than two years since a Washington, D.C. pro bono team successfully represented their client in her year-long process of adopting a child, that success continues to resonate in the local community in ways big and small.
The adopted child was originally featured six years ago on NBC’s Wednesday's Child and NBC Washington Channel 4 recently ran a follow-up success story featuring our client and her adopted daughter. The segment aired on October 14, 2009 during the 5:00 pm news and on October 18, 2009 during the 9:00 am news. The segment can also be viewed on the NBC website at: http://www.nbcwashington.com/station/shows/wrc/wednesdays-child/.
Through our partnership with the Children’s Law Center, McDermott filed a contested petition for adoption and worked tirelessly over the course of a year to achieve this very heart-warming result. “Having the privilege of representing my client and seeing the process through from the beginning to the very happy ending has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career. My client still refers to me as her ‘Law Angel,’” said Firm partner Joanne Ludovici-Lint, who led the pro bono team.
“McDermott shares the Children’s Law Center’s vision of a future in which every child has a safe home, a meaningful education, and a healthy mind and body. This is a fine example of the wonderful things that come from our partnership,” said Guy Collier, chair of McDermott’s Pro Bono and Community Service Committee and chair of the board of directors of the Children’s Law Center.
The Children’s Law Center advocates on behalf of at-risk children by handling legal matters in the areas of adoption, custody, abuse and neglect, special education, domestic violence and government benefits.
