BOSTON (November 3, 2009) — McDermott Will & Emery LLP announces that Mark W. Pearlstein will become partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Boston office effective January 1, 2010. Mr. Pearlstein currently heads the Boston Trial Department. He succeeds Susan M. Cooke, who became partner-in-charge of the Boston office in 2006 and who will focus on her responsibilities as chair of McDermott’s Firm-wide OSHA/Environmental Practice Group. The Firm’s Boston office has nearly 70 lawyers practicing in a wide range business law and litigation areas. Entrepreneurs and start-up companies represent an important part of the office’s client base, in such sophisticated economic sectors as telecommunications, Internet/e-commerce, energy and health care.
“Since joining McDermott in 2000 from Boston's U.S. Attorney's Office, Mark has played a lead role in building our trial capabilities,” stated Ms. Cooke. “In addition to his white-collar practice, he has handled complex commercial litigation on behalf of the Massachusetts Port Authority and other high-profile clients and has been active in Massachusetts federal and state judicial organizations. He will be a terrific leader for the office and for such efforts as our pro bono representation, which in the past three years has involved over 80 percent of our Boston lawyers – including many from the Trial Department.”
Mr. Pearlstein’s practice includes white-collar criminal defense, the defense of Securities and Exchange Commission actions, complex commercial litigation, arbitration and internal investigations. He represents clients before courts and government agencies throughout the United States. Chambers USA lists him as a leading general commercial litigation lawyer, with high rankings in white-collar and government litigation. Mr. Pearlstein served as a federal prosecutor in Boston from 1989 to 2000, including as First Assistant U.S. Attorney. He has served on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court's Web Advisory Board, on the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts Committee to Revise the Local Rules, and on its Criminal Justice Act panel of defense attorneys. Pearlstein received his J.D. from Harvard Law School.
