CHICAGO (December 1, 2009) — Law Bulletin Publishing Company has named Neil T. Kawashima, a partner at McDermott Will & Emery LLP, one of this year’s “40 Under Forty” Illinois attorneys to watch. Receiving more than 1,000 nominations, Law Bulletin Publishing Company chose 40 young attorneys who were “hardworking, intelligent, skillful and successful. These are attorneys that clients would feel fortunate to have handling their legal matters.”
In selecting Neil for this honor Law Bulletin Publishing Company noted that, “The reasons for Neil’s success are clear: he has become one of Chicago’s top counselors on estate and gift planning, as well as a highly-regarded advisor on philanthropic matters. He has earned rave reviews from his high net worth individual and family clients for his guidance on complex and sophisticated estate planning matters. That includes helping them to design and implement tax-efficient charitable giving strategies and to identify, strategize and carry out their philanthropic goals.”
As a member of the Private Client Department, Neil has a diverse practice, representing wealthy individuals and families with respect to estate and gift planning, estate and trust administration, and business succession issues. A significant portion of his practice focuses on philanthropic matters, including the representation and advising of tax-exempt organizations, including private foundations, public charities, supporting organizations and religious groups. In this regard, Neil advises organizations about corporate and trust governance issues, federal and state compliance and audit matters, grant and scholarship programs, fiduciary matters, best practices, planned giving matters and reorganization strategies. He also counsels individuals and families with respect to charitable giving techniques and philanthropy.
Neil received his A.B. from the University of Chicago and his J.D. from Cornell University. He was also named a Best Lawyer in America by Woodward White, as well as an Illinois Rising Star by Law & Politics.
