CHICAGO (November 18, 2010) — For the fourth consecutive year, McDermott Will & Emery LLP has been ranked among the nation’s leading litigation practices in Benchmark Litigation: The Definitive Guide to America’s Leading Litigation Firms & Attorneys (published October 2010 by Euromoney).
Several of McDermott’s practice groups were named as top national and state-level litigation practices in this year’s edition. Specifically, McDermott received five national rankings, five state rankings, 34 total individual rankings, and three Tier 1 state litigation rankings (California, Illinois and Massachusetts). These rankings, coupled with the 2010 U.S. News and Best Lawyers survey highlights, demonstrate McDermott’s growing national reputation as a leading provider of litigation services.
McDermott’s appellate, insurance, intellectual property, securities and white collar crime litigation practices were all ranked at the national level. Partners recognized as national “Leading Individuals” in Benchmark Litigation include Jeffrey E. Stone, Co-Chairman of McDermott (General Litigation); M. Miller Baker (Appellate); Bobby R. Burchfield (General Commercial); Steven S. Scholes (Securities) and Margaret H. Warner (Insurance).
In California, Benchmark ranked McDermott as a top-tier litigation practice, noting that the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice garnered the most attention from peers in California. Leading individuals include intellectual property partner Terrence P. McMahon, highlighted as a “stand-out” lawyer and David Dolkas, praised by a practitioner as “a great lawyer.” California partners Jon Dean and Peter J. Drobac were named as “Future Stars” in the guide.
McDermott’s Illinois litigation team ascended to “highly-recommended” status based on peer and client feedback. One client said, “We use some high-profile firms, and McDermott is right up there with any of them.” The Firm’s Trial Practice Group head, Lazar P. Raynal, was noted for his representation of Orbitz in more than 140 jurisdictions. Partner Michael A. Pope was hailed as “phenomenal” by a competitor. Additionally, partner David Rosenbloom and Co-Chairman Jeffrey E. Stone were named “Leading Lawyers” and partner Jocelyn Francoeur was named a “Future Star.”
In Massachusetts, McDermott was ranked as a Top-Tier firm and noted for its excellence in internal investigations and intellectual property. The Firm’s ability to attract former federal prosecutors caught the attention of peers who noted the presence of Mark Pearlstein and Michael Kendall as significant practitioners in cases related to white-collar investigations and enforcement matters with the SEC. “Leading Lawyers” included Sarah Columbia, Michael Kendall, Edward Leibensperger, Mark Pearlstein and Peter Resnik.
In the Firm’s New York office, Peter John Sacripanti, Co-Chairman of McDermott, was listed as a Leading Lawyer and Benchmark highlighted his recent work for major Firm clients. Future Stars included Banks Brown and Daniel N. Jocelyn.
In Washington, D.C., McDermott was acknowledged for its appellate and Supreme Court practices. A client commented, “On a scale of 1-10, I would evaluate them a 10….They have been smart, responsive, efficient, creative. I would be unstinting in my praise of their services.” Benchmark took particular note of the Washington, D.C., office’s “Leading Lawyers” including M. Miller Baker, Steven Becker, Bobby R. Burchfield, Joel Freed, Ray Jacobsen, Abbe D. Lowell, Raphael V. Lupo, Craig Seebald, Margaret H. Warner and Joseph Winterscheid.
