CHICAGO (June 13, 2011) – McDermott Will & Emery has been named one of the country’s leading law firms in the 2011 edition of The Legal 500 United States. McDermott was recognized for its national strength in the areas of antitrust, employee benefits and executive compensation, finance, health, insurance, intellectual property, litigation, media, technology and telecoms, mergers, acquisitions & buyouts, and tax.
The Firm’s total practice area and individual rankings have increased from the 2010 edition, reflecting upon McDermott’s upward momentum and strong emphasis on client service. Demonstrating McDermott’s prominent national presence, seven partners were named “Leading Lawyers” in their respective disciplines while the Firm was ranked in 27 separate practice areas.
McDermott enhanced its leadership position in healthcare as it was named a Top Tier firm in this area, and lawyers in the Firm’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group were cited as a “team of high-quality attorneys with deep expertise in their specialties with a commitment to excellence and client service.” Health partner Christopher Jedrey was named a Leading Lawyer. Health partner Daniel Gottlieb was cited in the area of data protection and privacy, while Health partner Joel Michaels was recognized in the category of non-contentious insurance. Other Health lawyers given individual recognition include Charles Buck, James Cohen, Gary Gertler, Ira Rappeport, and Eric Zimmerman.
The Firm’s Corporate Advisory Practice Group earned praise at the national level for its work in mergers and acquisitions – large deals, private equity buyouts, corporate restructuring, structured finance, and venture capital and emerging companies. McDermott was ranked as a Tier 2 firm in the category of M&A (large deals), with five more partners listed in this area in 2011. “In all cases, (the Firm’s M&A team) has combined a high level legal expertise with hard work, prompt service and commercial acumen,” said a client. In addition, the number of partners recognized for private equity buyouts doubled over the past year, from three to six. Practice Group Leader Joseph Winterscheid as well as partners Jon Dubrow, Joel Grosberg, Raymond Jacobsen, David Marx and Alison Smith were named individually in the guide. McDermott’s Regulatory practice group was nationally recognized in the area of international trade. Partners Carolyn Gleason and David Levine were ranked individually.

Clients describe the group as “always on top of the issues.” Practice Group Leader David Rogers was recognized as a Leading Lawyer.
