ORANGE COUNTY (October 18, 2011) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP, a leader in intellectual property litigation, prosecution and transactions, is pleased to note that partners Mark J. Itri and Michael V. Lee have been named to the second edition of the “Intellectual Asset Management (IAM) Licensing 250” list of the world’s leading patent and technology licensing practitioners for 2011.
Both Mr. Itri and Mr. Lee were cited as part of the United States jurisdiction in the State of California for their versatility and holistic approach to advising clients on licensing matters within the context of the client’s broader Intellectual Property (IP) strategy. McDermott’s licensing practice is housed within a wider IP prosecution, transactions and strategy group headed by Mr. Itri. Focusing more squarely on transactional matters, Mr. Lee was also singled out for his licensing work in leading-edge areas such as nanotechnology.
“I speak for both myself, and Michael, when I say we are both extremely pleased to be recognized for this award by IAM,” said Mark Itri, partner and head of McDermott’s Intellectual Property Prosecution, Transactions & Strategy Practice Group. “Our licensing group has made great strides over the past few years in areas such as computer hardware, software and mechanical devices, and more recently in alternative energy, as many of our global clients look to IP licensing as a means to boost their bottom-line performance. With the Firm’s global footprint and ability to handle the full transactional needs of our increasingly global IP clients, McDermott is poised to capture increasing market share in this area.”
The “IAM Licensing 250” list was created through an extensive four-month research process that included interviews with hundreds of licensing professionals across the globe. The practitioners selected for this year’s list were chosen according to IAM as a result of a “high degree of positive feedback, as well as a demonstrable record of top-drawer work and a healthy degree of specialization in licensing (relative to their own market).”
With 185 attorneys around the world, McDermott’s Intellectual Property practice is renowned for its broad trial, appellate and prosecution experience. More than 125 members of McDermott’s intellectual property team hold technical and/or scientific degrees and more than 100 are registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). McDermott’s Intellectual Property practice includes numerous lawyers with valuable industry experience as well as former USPTO examiners and petition specialists.
