CHICAGO (February 3, 2012) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce that the BTI Consulting Group has named White Collar and Securities Defense Practice Group Leader Michael D. Kendall, and Health Practice Group partners Michael W. Peregrine and Paul F. Lawrence as “BTI Client Service All-Stars” in the 2012 edition of its annual report, The BTI Client Service All-Stars. McDermott is one of only 24 law firms (out of 169 included in the 2012 report) with three or more nominees, a reflection of the Firm’s ongoing commitment to delivering superior client service. BTI’s “Client Service All-Stars” are identified “solely and exclusively by corporate counsel,” according to BTI.
In addition to earning the rank of “All-Star,” Mr. Kendall received the distinguished BTI designation as an “All-Star MVP” as a result of being nominated to the “All-Star” list for the fourth consecutive year. He joins an elite group of only three lawyers nationwide in this year’s report who have been listed for four or more years in a row. BTI noted that clients applaud Mr. Kendall’s consistent victories in litigation and his ability to deliver on client expectations. According to one client, “He’s successful in all matters.”
Mr. Peregrine, who has been recognized previously as a “BTI Service All-Star,” and Mr. Lawrence were both nominated to the list by health care clients in recognition of their legal acumen and results-oriented service.
"Mike, Paul and Michael are exceptional attorneys, and we congratulate them on their most recent recognition as BTI Client Service All-Stars," said McDermott co-chairs Jeffrey E. Stone and Peter J. Sacripanti. “McDermott’s commitment to delivering outstanding client service has long been the top priority for the Firm and client satisfaction remains the best measure of McDermott’s success.”
Mr. Kendall represents clients in criminal and civil regulatory matters and business litigation. A significant part of his practice involves the representation of health care companies and businesses involved in cross-border disputes. He has tried numerous cases in federal and state courts and before arbitration panels, and has handled a number of appeals. From 1989 to 1996, Mr. Kendall served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Massachusetts. In 1992, he served as the Deputy Associate Attorney General and Counselor in the United States Department of Justice. Before he began practicing law, he worked as a foreign correspondent in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Mr. Lawrence concentrates his practice on mergers, acquisitions, affiliations, dispositions and complex business transactions involving companies in the healthcare services industry. His particular expertise includes representing hospitals, health systems, pharmacy companies, dialysis companies, and private equity firms in the acquisition and divestiture of healthcare services related businesses and business lines. These transactions include asset transfers, stock transactions, merger transactions and other affiliation transactions. He has been lead counsel on high profile, multi-facility acute care hospital acquisitions and divestiture transactions, both nationally and regionally, as well as a variety of smaller healthcare services company transactions designed to address the strategic positioning needs of clients.
Mr. Peregrine, a leading national practitioner in corporate governance law, represents corporations, officers and directors in connection with governance, corporate structure, fiduciary duties, officer-director liability issues and charitable trust law. He is outside governance counsel to many prominent corporations, including hospitals and health systems, voluntary health organizations, social service agencies and health insurance companies. Mr. Peregrine frequently serves as special counsel in connection with confidential internal board reviews and investigations. He regularly advises boards on fiduciary duty issues associated with complex business transactions.
