BOSTON (March 26, 2012) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that former Massachusetts Democratic State Senator Steven A. Baddour has been named a partner in the Firm’s Boston office. Mr. Baddour, a former Massachusetts Assistant Attorney General in the Trial Division and practicing trial attorney in private practice, will bolster McDermott’s bipartisan, state-level government relations and litigation capabilities.
Mr. Baddour was first elected to the Massachusetts Senate for the First Essex District in Massachusetts in January of 2002. During his tenure, he held leadership positions on several critical and substantive committees including the Joint Committee on the Judiciary (Vice Chair 2002-2011), the Joint Committee on Transportation (Chairman, 2002-2011) and the Senate Ways and Means Committee (Vice Chair 2011-2012). He continued a limited private practice while serving in the Senate, representing clients on matters related to civil and criminal litigation, estate planning and domestic relations, as well as business and real estate development in both state and federal court.
“Senator Baddour is an accomplished, well-respected state legislator who will deepen our existing capabilities and provide a strong Democratic complement to the outstanding counsel offered by partner Dan Haley,” said Steve Ryan, partner and head of McDermott’s Government Strategies Practice Group. “McDermott has a history of attracting and hiring some of the top legal and political officials within the State of Massachusetts including former Massachusetts Governor, William F. Weld, who has been a member of the Firm since 1997, and Steve Baddour will add to this tradition.”
“Through his decade long and successful tenure in the State legislature, Steve Baddour has proven to have the right mix of experience, dedication, and passion to be a successful lawyer and lobbyist here at McDermott,” said Mr. Weld. “Our work at the state and local levels can have a tremendous impact on the bottom line and well being of our corporate clients. I look forward to working with him in Massachusetts and beyond.”
Mr. Baddour was the recent recipient of the Massachusetts Municipal Association’s 2012 Legislator of the Year Award for being a key strategist on municipal health and pension reform. A life-long resident of Massachusetts, Mr. Baddour received his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts and his J.D. from the Massachusetts School of Law.
