WASHINGTON, D.C. AND BRUSSELS (March 27, 2012) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP is pleased to announce that the Firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice Group was once again been ranked among the world’s leading practices in Global Competition Review’s “GCR Global 100 – 12th Edition” survey. With this year’s rankings, McDermott has added two new country mentions over 2011 as well as improved rankings in the United States. The new rankings are reflective of the continued global expansion – and enhanced international capabilities – of McDermott’s Antitrust & Competition Practice Group.
In addition, Brussels partner Philipp Werner has been voted one of the world’s ”best competition lawyers under the age of 40” in GCR’s “40 Under 40” survey. Mr. Werner focuses on European and German competition law including State aid, merger control, cartels and abuse of dominance, and his clients include companies in the automotive, infrastructure, transport and health care sectors. Of particular note, over the past year he has advised and represented a German regional airport in a State aid investigation by the European Commission. After four years of investigations, the position adopted by the client was recently confirmed by an expert report ordered by the European Commission. Additionally, Mr. Werner has recently been retained by one of the world’s largest ICT companies to advise in a complex contractual competition law matter for an international high volume bidding project encompassing various European countries.
The “GCR Global 100” is one of the top ranking surveys in the antitrust and competition practice area. Highlights of this year’s rankings include upgrades of McDermott’s capabilities at the office level. Specifically:
McDermott’s Chicago office moved from a “Highly Recommended” to “Elite” ranking;
- McDermott’s Washington, D.C. office moved from a “Recommended” to “Highly Recommended” ranking;
- McDermott had a first-time ranking in France with the Paris office being cited as “Recommended”;
- McDermott for the first time was “Recommended” in Germany, with the team working in the offices in Brussels, Munich and Düsseldorf;
- The Italian office once again was ranked as “Recommended.”
“We are extremely pleased to have increased our standings in this year’s "GCR Global 100," and delighted to see Philipp recognized for his outstanding achievements and contributions to our team this year,” said Joseph F. Winterscheid, partner and head of McDermott's global Antitrust/Competition Practice Group in Washington, D.C. “These recognitions are the result of a great deal of hard work and extensive cross-border teamwork around the world.”
