SILICON VALLEY (May 14, 2012) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that it has named partner Daniel E. Alberti as partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Silicon Valley office in Menlo Park. Mr. Alberti, a partner in the Firm's Trial practice, will focus on building McDermott’s regional client base and local footprint in one of the world’s most unique and dynamic marketplaces for legal services.
A seasoned litigator with over 30 years of trial experience, Mr. Alberti has litigated a wide range of complex litigation matters, including patent and trade secret cases, as well as sensitive business disputes in arbitration forums across the country.
“We are delighted to have Dan at the helm in Silicon Valley,” said Jeffrey E. Stone, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. “We believe Dan’s style both in the courtroom and as a manager aligns very well with the creative, entrepreneurial style of our clients in the Valley. Moreover, Dan has a dynamic, collaborative leadership style that will be a great asset as he works with local partners to execute the Silicon Valley office's strategic growth initiative."
As part of this new appointment, partner Anthony de Alcuaz will step down as partner-in-charge for the Silicon Valley office. One of the top litigators in the country as noted by Chambers USA, PLC Which Lawyer? and The Legal 500, Mr. de Alcuaz will turn his focus back towards strengthening McDermott’s Silicon Valley trial capabilities by taking on a greater role in more intellectual property litigation matters.
“As we welcome Dan to the McDermott leadership team, we also want to pay tribute to our tireless leader Tony de Alcuaz who has led the Silicon Valley office since 2000,” said Peter J. Sacripanti, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. “Tony has helped build our presence on the West Coast into the powerhouse it is today, and we thank him for his leadership, his drive and the skillful way he managed the office over the past 12 years. We believe we are making a strong transition from one great leader to yet another under optimal circumstances for the Firm."
Increasing client demand in the area of intellectual property litigation has been the dominant driver of McDermott’s recent growth in Silicon Valley. In response to this, McDermott has brought on board seven Intellectual Property lawyers in its Silicon Valley office since February. Specifically, the Firm announced the appointments of highly-regarded Intellectual Property litigation partner Fabio Marino and his team consisting of counsel Judith S.H. Hom and associates Nitin Gambhir, Barrington E. Dyer and Teri Nguyen. Immediately prior to that, McDermott announced that IP litigation partners S. Michael Song and Dr. Bhanu Sadasivan had joined the Firm in its Silicon Valley office. These important additions, which give McDermott increased technical proficiency, come amid a wave of competitor vs. competitor patent litigation involving many of the nation’s largest high-tech companies.
McDermott’s Silicon Valley office has played an integral role in the Firm’s West Coast expansion over the past few years. Based in Menlo Park, the office provides a broad range of corporate, intellectual property, tax and litigation services for our clients in a wide range of high-tech industries including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, alcoholic beverages, gaming, computer hardware, software, networks and telecommunications.
