NEW YORK (July 16, 2012) – Expanding on its deep bench of health care transaction lawyers, international law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced the appointment of Wall Street veteran Charles Ditkoff as counsel in its New York office.
Prior to joining McDermott, Mr. Ditkoff was Vice-Chairman and Head of Global Healthcare Corporate and Investment Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML). He joined Bank of American Merrill Lynch in 1999 as a Managing Director responsible for BAML’s coverage of health care service providers and distributors. He was given responsibility for all of Global Corporate Investment Banking’s health care services coverage in 2003. Under his direction, Bank of America Securities gained the leading market share in the sector in mergers and acquisitions, as well as financings. Before joining BAML, Mr. Ditkoff worked for five years in the Corporate Finance Group at Morgan Stanley, primarily focusing on health care. He also previously worked as a Vice President at Credit Suisse First Boston and as a securities lawyer at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.
“Charlie has long been one of the most recognized bankers covering health care on Wall Street and we are delighted to welcome him to McDermott,” said Peter J. Sacripanti, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery. “He brings the valuable perspective of a top dealmaker who has also practiced law here in New York. Working together, we will be well positioned to meet the full needs of our diverse health clients.”
“The rare perspective and background that Charlie brings will help raise McDermott’s profile even further as we seek to better serve clients across the full continuum of health transactions,” added Jeffrey E. Stone, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery.
“Charlie’s appointment is a great gain for McDermott where we pride ourselves on having unmatched experience in health care mergers, acquisitions and affiliations of all kinds,” said Stephen W. Bernstein, partner and head of McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory Practice Group.
“I am excited to join McDermott’s health practice,” said Mr. Ditkoff. “The Firm is well known as the preeminent player in health care law, and I look forward to the opportunities I will have to add my deep industry experience to the team as we advise clients on a wide variety of transactions. I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Mr. Dikoff earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Brown University, graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude. He also earned a juris doctor from Yale Law School. He is a member of the Board of Directors of QuantiaMD, a health care social networking company. Mr. Ditkoff is also a Senior Advisor to the Marwood Group, and to Alvarez & Marsal.
