LONDON (5 December 2012) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP represented the Intersnack Group in its acquisition of KP Snacks, United Biscuits’ salty snacks unit, for an undisclosed sum.
Intersnack Group, the privately-held German snack group, is one of the leading manufacturers of savoury snacks in Europe, with an annual turnover of €1,7 billion.
Owned by private equity houses Blackstone and PAI Partners, United Biscuits, KP Snack’s parent company, is one of the world’s pre-eminent branded snacks businesses.
Intersnack Group will take control of KP Snacks, the UK's second-largest snack business with an annual turnover of £280m.
The transaction includes various iconic UK snack brands, such as McCoy's, Hula Hoops, KP Nuts and Skips and dramatically increases Intersnack's exposure to the UK market. Intersnack UK generates a turnover of approximately £80m.
The combination of Intersnack Group and KP Snacks brings together two companies with long-standing history and creates a strong alliance with combined net sales of more than £1.7bn (€2.1bn) and 8,000 employees.
The McDermott team that served as counsel to Intersnack Group included partners Hugh Nineham (Corporate), Rohan Massey (IP and commercial), James Ross (Tax) and Katie Clark (Employment).
