Over the past several years, many of McDermott’s individual lawyers and offices have achieved recognition by GCR in its individual country surveys. This year, however, McDermott demonstrated that the whole of its global platform is even greater than the sum of its parts by achieving firmwide recognition. In addition to its global ranking, McDermott was rated "Elite" in Illinois, "Highly Recommended" in Washington, D.C. for Government Antitrust, and “Recommended” in Germany, France and Italy. Competition lawyers in the firm’s Brussels office also received individual recognition.
“We are delighted that GCR recognition has progressed from our individual offices to top tier status at the firmwide level,” said Martina Maier, head of McDermott's European Antitrust/Competition practice. “This ranking is an acknowledgment of the continued success, growth and expansion of our antitrust practice, and our Firm’s position as an international antitrust powerhouse.”
In its analysis, GCR writes, “McDermott’s ability to attract talented partners to boost what was an already notable global practice led to an increase in high-profile work in 2012, particularly on the behavioural side.”
In 2012, two partners joined the Washington, D.C. practice. Warren Rosborough returned to the Firm after a stint as a trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DoJ) antitrust division. Allan Van Fleet, one of the nation’s leading antitrust attorneys, joined in May from another international law firm, splitting his time between Washington, D.C. and Houston. McDermott also hired partner Sabine Naugès in Paris from another global firm, strengthening the Firm’s capabilities in the areas of public law and competition law.
“We are extremely pleased that McDermott has been recognized as one of the world's ‘elite’ Antitrust/Competition law firms by Global Competition Review,” said Joseph F. Winterscheid, partner and head of McDermott's global Antitrust/Competition Practice Group in Washington, D.C. “This recognition is attributable to the outstanding lawyers on the McDermott team, our integrated international antitrust/competition law platform, unwavering commitment to client service, and the excellent results that we consistently achieve for our clients around the globe. I am extremely proud to be a member of this outstanding team.”
