IRVINE, CA (January 22, 2013) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP today announced that it has named partner Daniel R. Foster as partner-in-charge of the Firm’s Orange County office, effective January 1, 2013. Mr. Foster, a partner in the Firm's Intellectual Property (IP) Litigation Practice Group, will focus on driving continued growth for the Firm in one of California’s most dynamic marketplaces for legal services.
Mr. Foster, who has been with McDermott since September 2001, also serves as head of McDermott’s IP Litigation Practice Group for Southern California, litigates and tries complex IP and other commercial cases, and advises companies on licensing issues and pre-litigation strategy and planning. A strong supporter of local nonprofit and community organizations, Mr. Foster is the Chair of McDermott’s Associate Development Committee, and is on the Firm’s Pro Bono committee.
“We are very pleased to welcome Dan into this important role and know he will bring both strong leadership and tremendous enthusiasm to the job,” said Peter J. Sacripanti, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery LLP. “Dan is ideally suited to help attain the Orange County office’s ambitious goals for 2013 and beyond. He is a top-notch litigator and a proven leader, who has been a role model in mentoring younger lawyers and being active in the local community. We are delighted that he has decided to accept this new role and look forward to working with him to continue our prudent growth in Orange County to meet the demands of our clients.”
As part of this new appointment, partner Fay Morisseau is stepping down as partner-in-charge for the Orange County office. Mr. Morisseau, a highly distinguished IP litigator who helped lead the Orange County office for more than a decade, retired from the Firm effective January 1, 2013.
”Fay has been our partner since 1998, and has served as an active litigator in the Intellectual Property Litigation Group during this period,” said Jeffrey E. Stone, co-chair of McDermott Will & Emery. “He has also served the Firm as a member of the Management Committee, the Compensation Committee and as head of the Orange County and Houston offices. We thank him for his years of service to the Firm and wish him and his family all the best in the years to come.”
Since 1987, McDermott’s Orange County office has housed an array of talented and experienced lawyers, with a focus on intellectual property prosecution, transactions, and litigation, antitrust disputes, and corporate matters. In January 2012, the Firm moved into new office space in the heart of the newly developed City of Irvine Transportation Corridor. The new space at 4 Park Plaza, which accommodates 60+ attorneys, will help the Firm continue to grow its footprint and market share in the local area and throughout the West Coast.
