Fracking Critics Say New York Appellate Decision Is Major Loss for Shale Gas Drilling

James Pardo contended that a New York State court decision to allow local regulation of hydraulic fracturing (fracking) will make it easier for the governor to finalize state rules on the process. “Now he can say ... ‘If you don't want it going on in your community, amend your zoning ordinance,’” Mr. Pardo noted. He added, however, that by “tak[ing] the fight local,” the decision “will force operators to get down in the weeds in these communities” to seek approval for fracking projects.
