SILICON VALLEY (September 23, 2013) - McDermott Will & Emery partner A. Marisa Chun has been recognized as one of this year’s “Women Leaders in Technology Law” by The Recorder, one of California’s leading legal publications. Fifty women attorneys were recognized “for handling game-changing, law-shaping, market moving work in and around the technology sector.”
Recorder Editor in Chief Greg Mitchell said, "These are the lawyers who get the call for that first, crucial funding round, the patent dispute only scientists can understand, the licensing-as-lifeline deal, the long-sought liquidity event."
Prior to joining McDermott, Ms. Chun recently served as United States Deputy Associate Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. As part of the Department’s leadership team on a range of intellectual property matters, Ms. Chun helped develop the government’s position on the Google Books case, involving copyright and antitrust issues. Ms. Chun also served as a federal prosecutor at the United States Attorney’s Offices for the Eastern District of Virginia and the District of Maryland, where she investigated, prosecuted, and tried criminal cases to verdict and handled criminal appeals. As a member of McDermott’s Trial practice group, Ms. Chun now leverages her IP, law enforcement, and trial experience to represent tech and other clients in IP litigation, complex commercial litigation, and white collar criminal defense matters.
“A skilled trial attorney and gifted advisor, Marisa has proven herself to be a powerful asset for our technology clients,” said Dan Alberti, partner-in-charge of McDermott’s Silicon Valley office.
This year’s winners will be profiled in a special print and digital report on September 23 and honored at a reception on September 25 in San Francisco. The full list of honorees can be found here.
