Stephen Kranz said an Illinois Supreme Court decision striking down the state’s law on Internet sales taxation was fantastic news but did little to provide clarity. "As a tax lawyer, I'd love to see cases decided on the Commerce Clause," Mr. Kranz noted. "That's where we really need jurisprudence." Diann Smith added that she hoped the case would contribute to the momentum that is needed for federal action. "Either the [Supreme] Court or Congress needs to act," Mr. Kranz concluded. "We've got a mess of inconsistency developing at the state level."
