WASHINGTON (June 9, 2015) – International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced that it has appointed Veleka Peeples-Dyer as a partner in its Health Industry Advisory Practice Group, resident in the Washington, D.C. office.
Ms. Peeples-Dyer has substantive experience in advertising and promotion, clinical trials, manufacturing and supply, drug safety, licensing, product acquisition due diligence, and health care fraud and abuse and other compliance matters. Additionally, her experience includes conducting internal investigations, developing and implementing legal and compliance training programs and advising on federal and state transparency, lobbyist and disclosure issues, including the Federal Physician Payments (“Sunshine”) Act. Most recently, she served as in-house counsel for a public biotechnology company.
“Veleka brings a wealth of highly specialized FDA regulatory experience that will be very valuable to our Life Sciences and Health clients,” said Stephen W. Bernstein, partner and International Head of McDermott’s Health Industry Advisory Group. “Her background will be particularly important as clients turn to us to help them navigate new technologies, such as mobile health products, which may become regulated under emerging FDA regulations and guidance.”
Lawyers in McDermott’s Food and Drug (FDA) practice represent companies, institutions and individuals before the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and other federal and state agencies. They provide legal guidance in business planning, product development, product testing and clinical trials, product applications and approval, marketing, compliance and enforcement matters, policy development, and congressional activities. Firm clients include biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and medical device manufacturers, public and private medical institutions, Institutional Review Boards, academic medical centers, clinical laboratories, clinical research organizations, and principal investigators. Members of the group have served in senior positions at the FDA, on Capitol Hill, in the Department of Health and Human Services, on presidential commissions, in trade associations and in industry.
“We are excited to have Veleka join the Firm,” added James Cohen, partner and head of McDermott’s Food and Drug Administration practice. “We are confident that she will further strengthen our FDA capabilities and our ability to advise life sciences and other clients on the full spectrum of regulatory issues.”
Ms. Peeples-Dyer earned her law degree from the University of South Carolina Law School. She graduated from Hampton University with a Bachelors of Arts degree with high honors.
