BRUSSELS (September 1, 2015) International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced today that it has appointed Mélanie Bruneau as partner in its Antitrust & Competition practice, based in its Brussels and Paris offices.
Ms. Bruneau advises on a broad range of areas in European law, including industrial sectors such as transport, aviation, manufacturing, consumer products, food, chemicals and IT, with a particular emphasis on regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining McDermott, she was a partner with an international firm in Brussels and in Paris.
Mélanie advises large multinationals on various aspects of EU competition law and has significant experience in cartel investigations, having been involved in particular in several cartel settlements before the European Commission. Mélanie regularly advises companies, but also trade associations, on global compliance programs regarding antitrust and performs internal audits and compliance trainings. She frequently advises on the rules and procedures governing anti-corruption and anti-money laundering legislation.
Ms. Bruneau advises companies on distribution agreements and strategies including e-commerce cross-border issues and distribution networks in Europe. She has assisted various clients in the setting up of their commercial websites in compliance with the e-commerce and data protection legislations. She also advises on consumer protection legislation, including misleading advertising and multi-level marketing. Mélanie is a member of the Paris and Brussels Bars.
Mélanie will be joined by associate Antoine de Rohan Chabot, who focuses his practice on antitrust and corporate matters. He advises large multinationals on international contracts, transportation and logistics issues, distribution agreements and on e-commerce cross-border issues, as well as antitrust cases and compliance programs.
“We are delighted to welcome Melanie back to the Firm,” said Ray Jacobsen, head of McDermott’s international Antitrust & Competition Practice Group. “Our strategy is to build a vibrant antitrust and regulatory practice in Europe and we have ambitious plans for developing our capabilities across the continent. We believe that Melanie and her team will be instrumental in driving them forward.”
Jacques Buhart, partner-in-charge of McDermott’s Paris office, added: “Our offices in France and Belgium are now experiencing a period of dynamic growth and we are very excited to welcome Melanie to our growing team. As a French lawyer working in Brussels, she has a good understanding of cross-border, international work. With her experience, she will be able to play an active role in developing our international clients for European Competition matters, with special focus on French clients. Additionally, Mélanie’s impressive competition experience will strengthen our pan-European offering.”
