BOSTON (June 20, 2016) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery today announced that leading patent attorney, Edward (Jed) Gordon, has joined the firm as partner in the Boston office.
“Jed has more than 13 years of experience doing patent prosecution and strategy work in the electrical and medical device fields,” said Sarah Chapin Columbia, global head of McDermott’s Intellectual Property Practice. “His arrival helps reinforce the firm’s ability to meet the needs of clients in the Boston tech sector and other high-tech markets around the world.”
Mr. Gordon handles a variety of transactional work for clients, including conducting due diligence, licensing negotiations, and freedom to operate analyses for acquisition and investment in public and private companies. He will provide valuable intellectual property insights to the deal work being conducted by the firm’s Corporate & Transactional practices, creating a powerful cross-selling opportunity in the areas of private equity, licensing, and M&A.
As a skilled patent prosecutor, Mr. Gordon also advises clients on strategic portfolio development and counsels companies in relation to patent enforcement strategies and defense against threatened patent infringement litigation. Mr. Gordon’s client base includes Fortune 100 companies, nationally renowned research institutions, and early stage companies in various technology fields, including wireless networking, medical devices, MEMS devices, computer networking, optical devices, and software.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jed,” said Tony Bongiorno, partner-in-charge in Boston. “We are excited about the talent and experience that Jed brings to the office, and we look forward to integrating him into our platform, such that he can further develop his practice and service clients.”
Mr. Gordon graduated, cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School (JD, 2002) where he was a contributing editor for the Michigan Law Review. He earned his undergraduate degree in science technology & society and computer science & electrical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (BS, 1999).
