WASHINGTON, DC (February 22, 2017) — McDermott Will & Emery is pleased to announce the arrival of Ian B. Brooks as a partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice. He joins recent lateral partners Nicole Jantzi and Paul Schoenhard in the DC office. Together this group will further enhance McDermott’s IP litigation offerings, particularly with respect to the Firm’s capabilities in representing clients before the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) and in post-grant review proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
Mr. Brooks joins McDermott from an international law firm where he successfully represented clients across multiple patent fora. He has been actively involved in several matters before the ITC and has represented a number of clients in inter partes review (IPR) proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). Mr. Brooks also has experience representing clients in all phases of litigation from preparing initial pleadings and managing discovery to arguing claim construction and presenting witnesses.
“Ian represents the next generation of IP talent that has strengthened our bench in the DC office,” said Sarah Chapin Columbia, global head of McDermott’s Intellectual Property Practice. “We are excited that he will be able to team with Nicole and Paul again, so that they can continue to provide top-notch IP litigation counsel to clients across various industries and technology sectors.”
Mr. Brooks earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and a Master of Science in Computer and Electrical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University. Mr. Brooks received his JD from Harvard Law School where he was an editor for the Harvard Journal of Law & Technology and winner of the 56th Annual Williston Negotiation Competition (Best Representation).
