Andrea L. Hamilton focuses her practice on EU and international merger control, investigations and complex antitrust litigation, with significant experience in the defense, life sciences, commodities, chemicals and consumer products industries. Andrea represents clients before the European Commission, European courts and other national competition authorities. She has counseled clients on matters related to distribution practices, cooperation agreements, and other competition and trade-related matters, including economic sanctions.
Andrea was formerly based in McDermott's Washington, DC, office until 2007. She focused her practice on mergers and acquisitions, representing clients before the US Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice. She also defended clients in antitrust litigation, including complex class-action defense.
Andrea speaks and writes frequently on antitrust matters, and has been recommended by The Legal 500. She has lectured at the College of Europe's Competition Summer School for Chinese Antitrust Officials, as well as the College of Europe's Executive Education Competition Summer School. Among other publications, Andrea co-authored the European Union chapter of GCR Getting the Deal Through - Pharmaceutical Antitrust (2015), and is also a contributing author to the ABA's book Best Practice in the Acquisition of a Government Contractor. Andrea is a member of the International Bar Association's Mergers Working Group and through this body has contributed to submissions made to the European Commission and to competition authorities worldwide. In 2014, Andrea was awarded the International Association of Young Lawyer's (AIJA) Past Presidents' Award for a report she co-authored on collective damages in England. Previously, Andrea served as the editor in chief of the Virginia Journal of International Law.
