Mark J. Itri has more than 27 years of experience providing full-service intellectual property (IP) counsel to a variety of businesses, including directing the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, negotiating and drafting technology transfer agreements, joint development agreements and licenses. Mark also has significant experience in strategic IP planning, patent and trademark portfolio management, opinion work, as well as due diligence in connection with technology and trademark acquisitions. Mark’s background includes eight years of patent litigation, including as a first chair litigator who successfully concluded several patent litigation matters. He has substantial experience in all phases of litigation, including injunctions, Markman hearings, dispositive motions, pretrial proceedings, settlement and trial.
From 2010-2015 Mark served as head of McDermott’s Global IP Prosecution, Transactions & Strategy Practice Group during which time it was awarded the Legal 500 USA Team of the Year IP: Patents Non-Contentious. In addition, Mark served for six years as a member of the Firm’s Management Committee. Currently, Mark is the local head of the IP Prosecution, Transactions and Strategy Practice Group in Orange County.
Mark hosts and lectures frequently at the Firm’s Orange County IP Roundtable programs and has also lectured for the California Bar Association, Intellectual Property Section.
Prior to practicing law, Mark gained practical engineering experience in the private aerospace industry in research and development of microprocessor designs and flight control systems. He now concentrates his IP practice on technology relating to electronics and computer software arts, semiconductors, microprocessor design, the internet, image processing, pattern and speech recognition, server and network systems, and mechanical devices and instruments.
Mark earned his undergraduate degree in electrical engineering.
