Susan M. Nash focuses her practice primarily in the areas of health care reform and health and welfare benefit plans, including compliance with the Affordable Care Act (ACA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA), Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA), the Internal Revenue Code and other federal laws affecting group health plans. She is chair of the Firm’s Health and Welfare Plan Affinity Group. Susan is highly regarded nationally in the area of health care reform and health benefits, and regularly writes and speaks on such issues.
Susan has extensive experience working with employers, vendors and health plans to design and implement a variety of health and welfare plans. These include medical, prescription drug, wellness programs, on-site clinics, disability, mental health benefits, cafeteria plans and consumer-directed health plans such as health reimbursement arrangements and health savings accounts. Susan also has extensive experience in assisting employers with private exchange solutions for retirees and active employees. She has counseled a wide variety of group health plans on compliance with HIPAA's privacy, security and nondiscrimination requirements. Susan has represented a wide variety of clients in negotiations with the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Labor, the Department of Health and Human Services and in contracting with third-party vendors for welfare plans.
