Patrick D. Ryan focuses his practice on employee benefits matters related to qualified plan design, employee benefit plan compliance issues, executive compensation arrangements and welfare plans. He has extensive experience advising clients on issues affecting employee benefit plans and executives in sales, acquisitions, mergers and other corporate transactions. Patrick regularly advises clients with respect to change in control payments, compliance related matters, corrections under the Employee Plans Compliance Resolution System, determination letter filings and plan terminations.
Prior to joining McDermott, Patrick was a manager for an international accounting and consulting firm, where he worked to develop and implement national policies and procedures to assure the practice’s conformance with federal regulations. While in law school, he was a teaching assistant for an advanced executive compensation course and the research assistant to the associate director of Employee Benefits Law at the John Marshall Law School. Patrick participated in a panel presenting various defined benefit matters to agents of the Great Lakes Area Tax Exempt & Government Entities (TE/GE) Operating Division. In addition, he assisted in editing a textbook on employee benefit plans.
