Rita J. Yoon focuses her practice on intellectual property litigation, trials, appeals and licensing. Rita has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in the pharmaceutical, smartphone, wireless communications, digital entertainment and LED television industries. She is active in all phases of litigation from pre-suit investigations through trial and appeal to the Federal Circuit and the US Supreme Court. In a closely-watched case before the US Supreme Court, Alice Corp. v. CLS Bank Int’l, 134 S. Ct. 2347 (2014), Rita represented amicus curiae to clarify the standard for patent eligibility of computer-implemented claims. In 2015, Rita was selected as a secondee attorney to one of the world's largest computer and smartphone chipmakers.
In addition to litigation, Rita counsels clients on licensing and patent portfolio evaluations. She represents a diverse range of clients in the car software systems, wireless communications, LED television, medical device, athletic club and sports equipment industries in developing global patent and trademark licensing strategies.
Rita is frequently published in Bloomberg BNA Patent & Trademark Journal, Corporate Counsel, National Law Journal and other publications. While in law school, she won the Arlyn Miner Book Award for best-written appellate briefs. She also was a senior editor for the Journal of International Law and Business.
