An employee grievance can raise a discrete minor issue or relate to events going back many years. Employers need to be equipped to handle both types, and be aware that the more complex and historic a grievance is, the more likely it is that the issues will end up being considered by an Employment Tribunal.
The key is to handle the grievance properly, without its management becoming a drain on the business. Our seminar will focus on practical tips, such as the:
- Initial response: How to spot when a gripe becomes a grievance, and how best to respond, including setting up the initial meeting with the relevant employee, and what the meeting should achieve.
- Investigation: Conducting grievance investigations efficiently and effectively (covering the who, when and how), and trouble-shooting common issues such as the relevant employee taking time off sick with stress, or raising further grievances as the process continues.
- Outcomes: Analysing the legal position and level of risk, forming a decision, and how to maximise the effect of your grievance outcome and policy documents.
Members of the McDermott Employment Team will be on hand before and after the seminar to discuss any particular questions you may have. As ever, we look forward to seeing you here.
