WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 14, 2018) — International law firm McDermott Will & Emery announced today that David Fuller has returned to the Firm in the Benefits, Compensation & Employment Practice. Earlier in his legal career David spent 13 years at McDermott after having worked in the IRS National Office in the former Office of the Associate Chief Counsel - Employee Benefits and Exempt Organizations. David is nationally known for advising clients for over three decades on matters involving employment taxes, information reporting, fringe benefits, outsourcing and contingent workers.
“David’s in-depth understanding of this complex and highly specialized area will enable clients to better navigate the changing employee benefits landscape during this period of uncertainty,” said Todd Solomon, head of McDermott’s Benefits, Compensation & Employment Practice. “David was such an asset to the practice during his previous time at McDermott, and we are delighted to welcome someone of his caliber back to the Firm.”
“We are thrilled to have David back at the firm – there are few lawyers in the United States that have his depth and breadth of experience in employment tax and fringe benefit matters,” said Andrew Liazos, head of McDermott’s Executive Compensation Group. “David’s return is particularly significant at this time in light of all of the tax reform changes that impact fringe benefit and tax withholding practices.”
David represents clients in tax controversies handling matters with and against all levels of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). He has successfully represented corporations, tax exempt organizations and federal and state agencies with hundreds of millions of dollars at stake on payroll tax and employee fringe benefit controversies in industries like health care, technology, staffing and transportation. His current work includes representing taxpayer interests in an employment tax case before the United States Supreme Court.
“With a world-class combination of employee benefits lawyers and tax litigators, McDermott provides the perfect platform upon which I can continue to excel in both advising companies on fringe benefits, payroll tax and tax controversy matters,” said David. “McDermott has a deep understanding of what it takes to mount a defense on behalf of clients embroiled in bet-the-company tax litigation, and I’m looking forward to joining forces with Todd Welty and the Firm’s outstanding tax litigators to enhance what we can offer to enterprises facing the IRS in complex tax controversies. Overall, I am thrilled to be rejoining the McDermott team, and I look forward to once again having the opportunity to work alongside some of the best and brightest in the industry.”
David’s arrival complements the addition of Judith Wethall and Finn Pressly as part of McDermott’s team of US and international employee benefits lawyers serving clients’ needs from the international to local levels and across every sector. McDermott’s employment lawyers have received top marks in all major ranking directories, including Chambers USA, Legal 500 USA, U.S. News – Best Lawyers and Law360.
