McDermott is home to many of the world’s top law students. Whether you join us through one of our internship or trainee programs, you’ll jump feet first into an exciting environment. At McDermott, you’ll be involved in real client work, gain new legal and professional skills, enjoy significant benefits, and build the foundation of a rewarding legal career.
It’s all about getting the right start at the right firm. We provide mentoring from experienced partners, substantive work on client matters and cases, career advisement, and a transparent evaluation and advancement process.
Throughout our Firm, diversity, inclusion and community involvement are valued just as highly as client service. Through a range of programs, we seek to revitalize our communities, raise funds for charities and heighten awareness about the critical work those organizations engage in on behalf of disadvantaged communities.
Our goal? To help you create and follow a road-map to professional success.
Let’s get started.
Operating at the heart of the European Union, our Brussels team supports McDermott’s global client base and provides sophisticated counsel in all aspects of competition and international trade law. We are multi-legal and multilingual; our lawyers are of many different nationalities and speak the languages of our clients. We are admitted to work across Europe and the United States, and collaborate with lawyers throughout the Firm.
We advise clients across several areas of competition and trade law, including corporate transactions, merger control notification, state aid, public procurement, cartel investigations, technology licensing, and pricing and distribution arrangements. We are supported in particular by the Firm’s European dispute resolution team that represents clients in EU and Member State litigation, arbitration and mediation, risk arbitrage, sector inquiries and agency complaints.
At McDermott’s Brussels office, you will assist in the provision of legal advice to the highest standard. To achieve your objectives you will be a valued member of an international team led by talented partners, including senior associates and support staff. We value our lawyers and our Firm, and office cultures are open, dynamic and business-focused. We offer real career opportunities and development.
McDermott’s Paris office plays an important role in our international firm, helping French businesses strengthen their positions domestically, throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and around the world. Our highly experienced lawyers also advise foreign and multinational investors, companies and financial institutions seeking to enter the marketplace in France.
Like our clients, we have pursued an intelligent, practical growth strategy, building the Paris office in a manner that best serves the needs of our diverse clients. Our 60-lawyer team provides cross-disciplinary counsel to some of the country’s best-known companies in all key areas of law, including corporate transactions, EU competition, finance, labor and employment, litigation and dispute resolution, private equity, IP, public law and tax, among others. We have strong industry teams as well, with extensive experience in life sciences, construction and engineering, distribution, energy, oil and gas, telecommunications and transportation.
As a trainee in McDermott’s Paris office, you will assist in the provision of legal or tax advice and services to the highest standard. You will be expected to keep up-to-date with the relevant areas of law and practice, and understand and comply with all rules of professional conduct.
Where much is demanded of our trainees, much is offered. To achieve your objectives you will be a valued member of a team led by experienced partners and including senior associates and support staff.
We value our people and our Firm, and office cultures are open, dynamic and business-focused. You will find our teams friendly and supportive.
We seek the brightest, best and most entrepreneurial interns with strong interpersonal skills. Our training program is deliberately exclusive, and our trainees are self-reliant, academic high-fliers who want to make their mark. We recruit interns with a French university diploma in law, possibly with a Grande Ecole, an LLM or an equivalent legal degree with top marks and fluent English. Experience studying and working abroad is appreciated, as well as fluency in other languages.
We offer internships of 3 to 6 months throughout the year.
As an integral part of an international law firm, the scope and breadth of work offered to our trainees is varied and of high value to our clients. We pride ourselves on giving our trainees early client responsibility and a supportive and collegial structure to ensure that their time at McDermott is enjoyable and, perhaps more important, helps them to achieve continued success in their career.
Our trainees work side by side with senior partners, all of whom are highly qualified and have a wealth of experience. As such, our trainees work on a wide range of significant matters and issues, and gain broad legal experience within a dynamic, commercially focused environment. We also provide many opportunities to get to know the partners, senior counsel, associates and other staff through a wide range of social events held across the year.
We are looking for bright, entrepreneurial individuals who relish the challenge of working for a global law firm, who possess team spirit, common sense and initiative, enthusiasm for clients, and an interest in solving complex problems, and who have earned outstanding grades.
With almost 15 years of experience providing legal services in the Italian market, our lawyers offer complete, multidisciplinary and innovative legal services in all relevant law sectors.
For Italian-based companies and multinational corporations active in the local market, McDermott provides effective, coordinated legal counsel on cross-border and domestic transactions and on a broad range of legal issues, including EU competition and government regulatory compliance, energy, tax, corporate and M&A, insurance, health, private equity and capital markets, banking and finance, intellectual property, real estate, restructuring and employment law, as well as litigation, arbitration and alternative dispute resolution.
If you wish to build an international career, McDermott is the right place: beside the classic path during the traineeship period to become a lawyer, in participating and attending civil, tax and commercial judicial hearing, you will work on extra judicial matters and fields.
In fact, as a trainee in McDermott’s Milan office, you will assist in the provision of legal or tax advice and services to the highest standard. You will be expected to keep up-to-date with the relevant areas of law, tax and practice, and understand and comply with Italian rules of professional conduct.
Where much is demanded of our trainees, much is offered. To achieve your objectives you will be a valued member of a team led by experienced partners including senior associates and support staff. As your skills and experience increase and to help you develop interpersonal and team-building skills, you will be given responsibility for delegating tasks and supervising where appropriate.
We value our people, and our Firm and office cultures are open, dynamic and business-focused. You will find our teams friendly and supportive.
We seek the brightest, best and most entrepreneurial graduates. Our training program is deliberately exclusive, and our trainees are self-reliant, academic high-fliers who want to make their mark. We recruit law and fiscal (dottori commercialisti) graduates with top marks and fluent English. Experience studying and working abroad is appreciated, as well as fluency in other European languages.
Our lawyers bring a wealth of impressive experience in the areas on which they advise, including energy commodities, employee benefits, compensation, labour and employment, US and international tax, private client, international dispute avoidance and resolution, and corporate transactions and strategy. We serve as highly valued, trusted advisors to multinational and UK clients, providing practical, business-orientated legal advice.
The secret to our success is the high degree to which we value our people. Our culture is open, dynamic and entrepreneurial, and our professional teams are friendly and supportive. As such, trainee solicitors at the Firm are key contributors to and beneficiaries of this collegial, client-focused environment.
As a McDermott trainee solicitor, you will assist in the provision of legal services and advice to Firm clients at the highest standard. You will be expected to keep up-to-date with the relevant areas of law and practice and understand and comply with the SRA’s Code of Conduct. In addition to completing your Professional Skills Course, you will attend external and/or internal training courses.
In return for your hard work and dedication, we provide you with the tools and professional development you need to achieve excellence. Our trainees are given significant responsibility early in their careers, so we recognise the importance of helping you become fully integrated within the Firm and to ensure that you have appropriate training and mentoring opportunities.
Graduates who meet our challenge receive quality assignments and work in close-knit teams across the Firm’s various practice groups. The number of trainees selected for our programme is intentionally kept low; as a result, your exposure to legal work is increased and your training is effectively accelerated beyond that at larger firms with a greater number of trainees.
In addition to the Professional Skills Course, London trainees also attend a variety of internal and external training seminars. For example, at the start of your tenure at McDermott you will attend a week-long formal induction programme that explores the Firm’s various practice areas. The programme provides you with an invaluable opportunity to meet and build relationships with associates and partners from a range of legal disciplines. You will also be assigned mentors in the department you join, to better facilitate this integration.
We seek the brightest, best and most entrepreneurial graduates to join our London office. Candidates may be graduates from any academic discipline, not just law undergraduates, with a demonstrable record of academic success and a strong spirit of self-reliance, perseverance and discipline.
