For Female Lawyers, the Hardest Suit to File Can be Against Your Own Firm


Andrea Kramer, referencing her co-authored book, “Breaking Through Bias,” said that women who are unfairly treated in law firms often change firms or leave practice because “it could very well be the end of your career” to sue for discrimination. Noting that attorneys must display “leadership” to advance at a firm, Ms. Kramer described how McDermott’s efforts to help women master advancement skills meant that nearly 30 percent of the 2014 equity partnership promotions were women.
