Benjamin (Ben) Goldberger focuses his practice on white-collar criminal defense, disputes before or involving government agencies, regulatory counseling and complex civil litigation. Having spent the last decade in government, he provides clients with significant insight into state legislative and regulatory processes, and various state agency programs.
Prior to rejoining McDermott, Ben served as deputy legal counsel for Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. In the Governor’s Legal Office, he advised senior officials in high-level decision-making and development of strategy and policy in a wide range of areas across state government. Ben’s focus was on agencies within the secretariats of Energy and Environmental Affairs, Housing and Economic Development, and Public Safety and Security. He worked closely with agency and secretariat leadership in developing and implementing legislative and regulatory initiatives in areas ranging from criminal justice reform to climate change mitigation and renewable energy procurement to economic development grant programs.
Ben previously served as assistant district attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where he tried more than three dozen cases to jury verdict and briefed and argued a number of appellate matters. His primary area of focus as a prosecutor was white-collar crime, public corruption and computer crime.
Ben began his legal career at McDermott, where his practice focused on internal investigations, grand jury investigations, administrative law, and other complex civil litigation.
Previously, Ben served as law clerk to the Honorable Mark Wolf, Senior Judge of the US District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
