Court Tells Justice Department to Release 1950s Gay ‘Purge’ Documents

Lisa Linsky said McDermott’s pro bono success helping the Mattachine Society force the FBI’s release of documents on a 1950s purge of gay federal employees is “important to the preservation of LGBT American history. But it’s also important [to] understand what the government did so we could do our best to avoid repeating history. Given the current environment, we need to do everything that we can to…make sure that the public is aware of the story of the government animus and discrimination toward LGBT people.”
